The Dreamers Exchange: Content Creators & Filmmakers Masterclasses is all about
upskilling talent in the creative industry. The key program goals include, helping Batswana
practitioners build their skills, and facilitating knowledge transfer from local, regional, and
international experts to creatives in Botswana.
We achieved these goals through the following components:

1. Masterclasses: We hosted six hybrid masterclasses over six months. These
   sessions were a mix of online and in-person formats, covering topics like
   screenwriting, producing, acting & performance, cinematography, sound editing, and
   directing. Participants had the chance to learn from a diverse group of facilitators,
   including professionals from the local industry, regional, and Hollywood experts.
2. Short Film Challenge: After the masterclasses, participants were grouped to create
   short films, allowing them to showcase the skills and knowledge they acquired during
   the program. This hands-on challenge was the perfect way for them to put their
   learning into practice and demonstrate their growth.

“Dreamers Exchange: Career Hubs” Pilot targeted five (5) communities, in the greater Gaborone area: Tlokweng, Mogoditshane, Ramotswa, Thamaga & Mochudi

The Career Hubs curriculum for the various communities focused on activities that developed the Youth and addressed : LIFESKILLS,  CAREER COACHING, SKILLS & APTITUDE TESTS, RESILIENCE & MENTAL HEALTH.

In the years 2020 – 2021, we have seen the world come to a stand-still in the midst of the Global pandemic – Covid 19. Botswana being no exception was affected by this global crisis. Fully cognizant of this fact and its ramifications, Dreams Alive Club made a decision to temporarily suspend our in-person programs. However, we also recognised that there remained a great need for us to continue our mandate; for empowering and motivating Students and Youth to stay inspired; for them to realise that even though undergoing a crisis, their Dreams are still valid and possible. During a global crisis we recognized that young Batswana needed mentorship and hope for their future more than ever. Led by a passion for Youth, the Dreams Alive Club partnered with local and international industry leaders and influencers. We used this platform to highlight the exceptional efforts being made by various stakeholders/ organizations locally towards Students and Youth Empowerment during the challenging season (Covid-19) – all while inspiring and activating youth to use the season to continue to learn, grow, develop their knowledge, craft and to reach their full potential!

This event sought to empower and upskill Creative Professionals in Botswana, specifically Content Producers & Actors. The event further sought to inspire and give local Creatives a networking opportunity and facilitate an opportunity for them to gain industry insight from the experiences of Dr. Rainbow Barris, Ms.Carnetta Jones and Mr. Berry Lwando.The Actors Workshop was a practical and technical session that was instructed by Ms. Carnetta Jones and Mr. Berry Lwando.

Through specially selected speakers and panelists, Students and Youth attendees have an opportunity to hear from industry experts and receive valuable information about possible Career paths in all spheres of influence. It is an amalgamation of pools of talent, top professionals, companies and institutions who provide participants the necessary information, all under one comprehensive and interactive event. This platform empowers Students and Youth to “Dream Big” and make informed decisions about their future.

This was an Acting, Dance, TV Presenting, Modeling and all round ‘Showbiz’ Masterclass with Hungani Ndlovu and Stephanie Sandows from Sans Group Performing Arts School (South Africa) teaching a diverse groups of learners including Kiddies, Youth, Young Adults and an advanced class for local Creative Professionals.

In commemorating World AIDS Day 2017, Dreams Alive Club invited acclaimed Adolescent & Youth Health Expert, Dr. Orapeleng Phuswane-Katse, to join us and provide additional support, running the life-skills and behavioural talks on Hygiene and Sexual Reproductive Health, discussing pertinent issues specific to young women.

Through this initiative, Dreams Alive Club sought to uplift the quality of life for adolescents and youth by creating a regular access and opportunity through a performing arts and storytelling, extra-curricular, weekend enrichment. Marimbas are a perfect fit for bringing hands-on accessible music to people from all walks of life. The programme focuses on providing an extra-curricular activity for the learners that emphasizes intensive ensemble, group participation, group learning, and team building.

In an effort to drive high-impact, age-appropriate and gender-sensitive interventions, Dreams Alive Club hosted 150 Girls and Young Women for a 2-day Empowerment Workshop to commemorate World AIDS Day 2016. At Dreams Alive Club we recognize the higher risk of infection amongst this group due to gender-based inequalities, including sexual abuse and gender-based violence. We remain committed to providing psychosocial support and mentoring through interactive activities and Edu-tainment.

The well-acclaimed Tasha Smith Actor’s Workshop (TSAW) was brought to Botswana through this Exchange! TSAW is a Los Angeles based Acting school that has seen many of its students transition to work on great and notable projects-Hollywood productions, TV & Film sets. Dreams Alive Club had the incredible honour to host TSAW and the acclaimed, fire-ball Actress/ Acting coach, Tasha Smith, in Botswana. Simultaneously with Actress Tasha Smith, Dreams Alive club had the privilege to host Actor Morocco Omari who brought an additional wealth of knowledge acquired from his extensive background as a Screenwriter and also Theatre Actor.
